“Black, White and Gray,” at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut, is often cited as the first museum exhibition of Minimalism. Curator Samuel Wagstaff selected works by twenty-one American artists, including three works from Anne Truitt’s Emmerich Gallery solo show of the previous year: Tribute, Ship-Lap, and Thirtieth (all 1962).
