Anne Truitt: White Paintings
Matthew Marks Gallery
1062 North Orange Grove, Los Angeles, CA
February 17 – April 2, 2022
This exhibition includes ten paintings, made between 1973 and 1999, from the “Arundel” series, titled after the Maryland county near Truitt’s childhood home. Each rectangular canvas is covered with a uniformly painted white ground on which the artist sparingly applied a few crisp graphite lines and occasionally some additional strokes of pure titanium white. It is the first exhibition to focus solely on this body of work since 1975, when the Baltimore Museum of Art organized “Anne Truitt: White Paintings,” from which this show takes its title.
